@DestineyTyler posted this on twitter … it’s the deleted scene we all heard about between Fitz and Rowan where Fitz puts his presidency at risk for Olivia … why the hell did they delete it ? .. oh I know, because Shonda wants him to be the devil
That was good, they should have kept it in. Because her Dad ain’t shit and never is going to be shit. He always put everything above Olivia and it was nice to see what Fitz would risk for her.
So of course it doesn’t get put in. lol
So if anyone is watching the Roosevelt miniseries on PBS, you know that FDR fell in love with Lucy Mercer several years and 5 children into a marriage to Eleanor. She was Eleanor’s personal secretary (which was foul, but I digress). FDR actually wanted to divorce Eleanor and marry Lucy and Eleanor agreed to this, but FDR’s mom Sara forbid and said she would cut him off without a penny. He was marked for a political career and the scandal would have destroyed his career before it fully got off the ground. So he stayed married to Eleanor but loved Lucy for the rest of his life (aided by Eleanor and FDR’s daughter Anna).
My point in sharing this is that very powerful, very ambitious men DO have the desire to give it all up for love. At least one man in the past century, King Edward VIII, abdicated his throne for love. It DOES happen. that very powerful men are ready, willing, and able to give up power and ambition for love. And as such, there really was no valid reason to trash Fitz and Olivia. Would it be difficult? Unquestionably so. But a compelling story worth telling? Absolutely. This is but one of the many reasons Shonda Rhimes is dead to me.
I loved that documentary. We got so many insights to three of the most influential people of the 20th Century who had a profound impact on this country and the world. But they were human, with all their foibles and their triumphs.
